Albacora and the scientific community

Maintaining oceans and their natural ecosystem are of paramount importance for our planet and our future. Albacora shares environmental concern on the impact of unsustainable fishing. This is why we do our utmost to enhance our knowledge of the species we fish and to improve the selectivity of our fishing techniques.

With our long history in fishing, Albacora offers valuable insights to the current debate on sustainability. Sustainability is our ultimate goal, but we need to manage the realities of our operating environment. Science must always be the determining factor. This is why we actively engage with the scientific community. We encourage visits from international marine scientists on our vessels, and regularly participate in scientific development programmes by the Spanish Oceanographic Institute, AZTI-Tecnalia and the ISSF

Since April, the ISSF has been studying how we work during a joint scientific trip aboard the Albatun Tres, currently sailing the Western Pacific Ocean. The ISSF is planning further scientific cruises in other oceans.

You can follow the ISSF scientists’ journey with Albacora via our newsfeed.
