Albacora is fully committed to transparency, which is why our fleet has 100% observer coverage status. This allows our activities to be properly scrutinised and ensures we are fully accountable for our actions.

24/7 remote observation
We also ensure that all our crews abide by their regulatory obligations under both European law and the law in regions where we fish. We have developed a remote observation system to monitor all the activities undertaken by our crew during fishing operations, reducing the risk of unauthorised activity. However, we respect the privacy of our employees, with observation limited to work areas.
We are embracing our responsibilities. By the end of 2014, our entire fleet will be fully equipped with a remote observation system.
Albacora is also party to a recent agreement signed by the Spanish tuna fleet and the Spanish Fishing Authority. We commit that all our vessels, irrespective of the national flag they sail under (i.e. Spanish or otherwise), fall under the control system applicable to Spanish flagged vessels. Our crew members also play an integral role in our drive for sustainability. They benefit from continuous on-the-job training provided by Albacora, the Spanish Oceanographic Institute, AZTI Tecnalia and the ISSF. This way, our crew know the latest fishing techniques, are aware of any new regulatory obligations and know how to implement them on board and at sea.
We also encourage our crews, with their detailed knowledge and experience of the oceans, to be industry pioneers. We want them to identify areas that can benefit from regulatory developments.
