Although Albacora has grown to become a leader in tuna production, we remain a family-owned firm with values that reflect our humble beginnings. We began our journey in 1957 when some boats from Bermeo began to operate in the waters of Senegal and Sierra Leone.
In 1962, four families from Bermeo – we were among them- commissioned four new vessels, equipped to freeze fish on board. This was a major breakthrough, allowing us to keep our catch fresh. All that provided the knowledge to found in 1974 headed by Iñaki Latxaga Bengoetxea the company Albacora, S.A.
